The National Math Trail (http://www.nationalmathtrail.org)

The National Math Trail is a K-12 Internet-based project supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Star Schools program, the Satellite Education Resources Consortium (SERC) and Texas Instruments. The Trail is an opportunity for K-12 teachers and students to discover and share the math that exists in their own environments. Students explore their communities and create math problems that relate to what they find. Teachers submit the problems to the National Math Trail site along with photos, drawings, sound recordings and videos. The Web site features a complete explanation of how to do a math trail activity, a technology tutorial and tips.

For an example of a local math trail, go to Opening Your Eyes to Math: Experiencing a Math Trail Through Downtown Elkader. (This PDF requires Adobe Acrobat Reader--Click here to download)
