Did you know that India's population exceeds 1 billion? India's people compose one-sixth of the human population yet they occupy only 22% of global land. In fact, India is expected to succeed China as the world's most populous nation within the next fifty years. India's doubling time (time that will take the current population to double at current growth rates) is just over 39 years, a full 12 years less than the 51 it will take the world's population to grow to twice its current size. The U.S. population of 276 million is ranked the third fastest growing, with a doubling time of 120 years.
